Troops in Okuama, Delta State, Continue to Destroy More Buildings

Soldiers have been sent to Okuama community in Delta State to keep peace. Unfortunately, after some soldiers were killed last weekend, more houses in the community have been destroyed by the military.

The soldiers are staying in Okuama now, and they have been destroying houses. Some people in the community say that soldiers are still there, continuing to demolish buildings. This situation started after soldiers were ambushed and killed while trying to rescue someone from the community.

In response to the killings, the military has sent armored vehicles to Bomadi, the council’s headquarters. They are trying to find the people responsible for the attack. President Bola Tinubu has ordered the military to find those who killed the soldiers. He mentioned that this attack shows the dangers faced by our soldiers as they protect our country.

Peter Obi, a former governor, called the killings barbaric and unacceptable. He emphasized the sacrifices made by security personnel and urged for better care for them and their families.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also condemned the killings, saying it goes against the peaceful values of Delta State. Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and the Urhobo Media Practitioners Advocacy Group (UMPAG) are calling for investigations into the incident and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

The Ijaw Youth Council condemned the killings and urged the state government to protect innocent people in the area. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana called for an end to the destruction of property and for those responsible to be prosecuted.

In all this, it’s clear that many are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and are demanding justice for the slain soldiers.
