Tragic Incident: 10-Year-Old Boy Arrested for Allegedly Strangling Playmate in Lagos

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 10-year-old boy has been taken into custody for the alleged murder of his playmate in the Ejibo area of Lagos.

The incident occurred during what was supposed to be an innocent game of football on Oluwole street in the Powerline area of Ejibo. The suspect and several other children, all around 10 years old, were playing when a disagreement escalated into a physical altercation between the two boys.

According to reports from the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, the mother of the deceased made a distressing report at the Ejibo Police division on the evening of March 28, 2024. She recounted that the tragic incident unfolded right outside her shop, where the children had gathered to play.

During the altercation, it is alleged that the suspect, identified as Ezekiel, forcefully held the victim’s neck until he could no longer breathe. The young victim tragically lost his life as a result of the strangulation.

Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives promptly visited the scene of the incident. They documented the scene, including taking photographs of the deceased’s body. The body was then transported to the General Hospital Isolo, where medical professionals sadly confirmed the boy’s passing. Subsequently, the body was transferred to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

As the investigation unfolds, the 10-year-old suspect remains in police custody. The authorities are diligently working to understand the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life, especially in moments when conflicts spiral out of control. It is a sobering moment for the community and a call to reflect on how we can better nurture understanding and peaceful resolutions among our youth.
