Trader Confesses to Killing Childhood Friend, Stealing Motorcycle, and Dumping Body in Pit
A shocking revelation has emerged from Oke-Igbo Road in Ondo State, as 39-year-old fruit trader Babalola Dolapo confessed to the gruesome murder of his childhood friend, Evangelist Opeyemi Oyelakin. Dolapo, who was arrested by police detectives, admitted to the crime, revealing that he killed Oyelakin, stole his motorcycle, and dumped his body in a pit.
In a statement to newsmen, Dolapo disclosed that he and an accomplice, Sikiru Mutiu (who is now on the run), sold the stolen motorcycle for N130,000 after committing the heinous act. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, with Dolapo attributing it to “the work of the devil.”
According to Dolapo, the incident unfolded when they approached Oyelakin to collect the bike, and a struggle ensued. In the heat of the moment, Dolapo struck Oyelakin with a stone, resulting in his tragic death. He expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that Oyelakin was a close friend.
Dolapo, who hails from Oyo State but resides in Ondo town, described himself as a trader who sells oranges but does not own a shop. He recounted that he has been involved in bike theft since 2021 but claimed that this was the first time he resorted to violence.
The State Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, condemned the crime and the negligence of farm owners in the area. He revealed that Dolapo and Mutiu had lured the victim, an Okada rider, under the pretense of inspecting a farm area. However, they viciously attacked him, resulting in his death.
Oladipo emphasized the need for vigilance among Okada riders, urging them to be cautious when transporting passengers to remote areas. He also urged the public to speak up if they witness suspicious activities.
As investigations continue to apprehend Mutiu and any other accomplices, the community is in shock over the senseless murder. The police have launched an enlightenment campaign to raise awareness among Okada riders about the dangers of taking passengers to isolated locations.
