South West Workers: NLC Calls for N794,000 Minimum Wage

Chairman of the Lagos State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mrs. Funmi Sessi, has suggested a new minimum wage of at least N794,000 for workers in the South West region of Nigeria.

Mrs. Sessi made this recommendation during a meeting organized by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage (TCNMW). The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, was held at the LTV Ground in Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

She emphasized the urgent need to review the national minimum wage due to the rising cost of living in various sectors. According to her, this increase is necessary to help Nigerian workers meet their basic needs and take care of their families.

The NLC also expressed disappointment with some governors who have not been able to pay the current minimum wage, calling it “unacceptable.”
