Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Pray for the Nation Amidst Abductions

Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, particularly emphasizing the importance of providing a secure and safe learning environment for Nigerian children.

His remarks came in response to the recent abduction of over 200 pupils, students, and a teacher from local primary and junior secondary schools in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a statement released by his Chief Spokesman, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Mr. Obi described the abduction as unacceptable, emphasizing that Nigerian children must have the opportunity to learn in an environment free from fear and threat.

He urged the relevant authorities to spare no effort in ensuring the safety of children attending school and to create a conducive atmosphere for learning. Mr. Obi emphasized the importance of citizens being able to worship freely and conduct their daily activities without fear.

Expressing dismay at the ongoing security challenges in Kaduna State, despite its high number of military and security institutions, Mr. Obi called for concerted efforts to address the menace of insecurity across the country.

He stressed the need for immediate and effective measures to secure the release of the abducted children and to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Mr. Obi highlighted the severe impact of insecurity on education in Nigeria, noting that the country is already struggling with a high number of out-of-school children due to school closures resulting from insecurity. He warned that further attacks on schools would worsen this situation, potentially leading to more children being left without access to education.

Calling on governments at all levels to explore every possible avenue for the safe release of the abducted school children, Mr. Obi urged Nigerians to continue working and praying for the nation. He emphasized the collective responsibility of ensuring that every Nigerian child can pursue their dreams and aspirations in a safe and secure nation, emphasizing that this is achievable in the New Nigeria.
