Jimoh Ibrahim Calls for Open APC Ticket, Asserts Confidence in Governorship Bid
Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to open its ticket for the upcoming 2024 Ondo State Governorship Election. He made this statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Ondo governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Senator Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, officially announced his intention to run for governorship on Tuesday.
He emphasized the essence of democracy, questioning why candidates should fear competition if they are competent and have a solid strategy. Ibrahim encouraged open competition, stating, “If you are competent and you have your strategy, why are you afraid of competition? Go to the field. If you are elected, so be it.”
When asked about his feelings towards Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ibrahim confidently responded, “How can I be afraid of Aiyedatiwa? With my Harvard strategy? My Harvard knowledge, how can I be afraid of Aiyedatiwa? Go and ask about me from (ex-governor Olusegun) Mimiko.”
He also invited inquiries about his involvement in past elections, particularly in Ondo State. Ibrahim mentioned how Governor Akeredolu secured his first term, hinting at his role in mobilization and creating social awareness.
It’s worth noting that Aiyedatiwa, a former Ondo deputy governor, assumed office after the unfortunate passing of Governor Akeredolu on December 27, 2023.
In response to Ibrahim’s declaration, Aiyedatiwa also announced his governorship bid, stating that it was the late Akeredolu’s wish for him to succeed as the governor of the state.
