Miyetti Allah Calls for Rebuilding and Compensation for Demolished Cattle Markets
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, is requesting the rebuilding and compensation for victims affected by the recent demolition of cattle markets in parts of the South East states.
Recently, the cattle markets in Lokpanta, Abia state, and Ugwuoba, Enugu state, were torn down due to allegations of harboring criminals and serving as hideouts for suspected kidnappers in the South East states.
However, Miyetti Allah has denied harboring criminals, stating that they have frequently identified and handed over criminal elements who infiltrated their ranks to the security agencies.
In a statement on Sunday, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, a leader of MACBAN in the South East and former Chairman of the group in the region, who is currently a Director in the national body, highlighted the dire situation faced by displaced cattle dealers in Abia and Enugu states.
Siddiki expressed concern over the economic hardship faced by their members in the South East, especially with Ramadan approaching. He mentioned that amidst the general economic challenges, the recent demolitions of the Lokpanta and Ugwuoba cattle markets by the Abia and Enugu State governments have added to the woes of their members.
While acknowledging the need to comply with government policies, Siddiki urged for compassion and understanding from the governments of Abia and Enugu States. He emphasized the importance of compensating the victims adequately and swiftly rebuilding the market facilities to support their members’ legitimate business activities.
The statement also called for calm among their members, urging them to await government decisions and pray for peace in the region. It emphasized the importance of being law-abiding and maintaining humility and sincerity towards their hosts for sustainable coexistence.
In conclusion, the statement expressed gratitude to the governments and leaders in Igbo land, urging them to continue supporting and accommodating the legitimate business activities of cattle breeders without hindrance. It also called for reflection and positive interactions during the Ramadan season, hoping for a better Nigeria where today’s challenges will be seen as a chapter in history. Miyetti Allah appealed to political leaders to be conscientious in policies that impact the well-being of all Nigerians.
