Governor Yusuf: Your Performance Decides Tenure Extension, 44 LG Caretaker Committee Told
During the swearing-in ceremony at the Kano State government house, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized to the newly sworn-in interim management committee for the 44 local government areas of the state that their performance will be the key factor in determining whether their tenure will be renewed or not.
Governor Yusuf stated that according to the constitution, the caretaker committee has a three-month tenure, during which their actions and achievements will dictate the next steps.
He also cautioned against any form of unruly behavior, reminding the committee members that his administration has a zero-tolerance policy for such conduct. The governor urged them to lead by example and to refrain from a bossy style of leadership, emphasizing that sanctions will be invoked if necessary.
The governor highlighted the importance of the local government councils in the state’s journey towards progress and prosperity, urging the committee members to work diligently to fulfill the administration’s campaign promises.
He stated, “We are determined to return the state to the path of progress and prosperity. Local government councils have an important role to play in this journey. You must embrace all and work hard to support our administration in fulfilling our campaign promises.”
Governor Yusuf made it clear that the committee members were carefully selected and constituted for this task. He assured them that the government will closely monitor their conduct and performance, and decisions about their future will be based on their achievements during the three-month tenure.
“In line with the constitution, your tenure is three months. And at the end of the three months, in conformity with your performance, we will determine the next line of action,” Governor Yusuf emphasized.
It’s worth noting that a motion of exparte was filed by one Haruna Abbas Babangida, seeking to restrain the Governor and others from appointing the committee. However, the court case was discontinued shortly afterward.
