EFCC Arrests 45 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Lagos

EFCC Cracks Down on Internet Fraudsters in Lagos, Arrests 45

In a recent operation, the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 45 suspected internet fraudsters in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The agency made this known in a statement posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, detailing that the arrests took place on Monday, March 11, 2024. The crackdown was a result of intelligence gathered on the activities of an Organised Cybercrime Syndicate Network (OCSN) operating in that part of Lagos.

According to the statement, the arrested individuals were found in possession of items such as exotic vehicles, sophisticated mobile devices, and laptops. These items were seized from them at the point of arrest.

The EFCC has stated that the suspects will undergo thorough investigations, and upon completion, they will be arraigned in court to face charges related to their alleged involvement in cybercrime activities.

This recent operation in Lagos follows similar crackdowns by the EFCC in other parts of the country. Just a few days prior, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC arrested an herbalist and 48 suspected internet fraudsters in Lokoja, Kogi State. Additionally, on Monday, it was reported that 37 suspected internet fraudsters were apprehended in various locations within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The EFCC continues its efforts to combat cybercrime and ensure that those involved face the full weight of the law.
