“Edo PDP Chairman Abducted by Gunmen”
Edo PDP Chairman, Hon. Tony Aziegbemi, was reportedly abducted by a group of armed men just a short distance from his home in Benin City. The incident occurred off the Government Reservation Area in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.
According to reports, the armed men, travelling in two Toyota Corolla cars, intercepted Aziegbemi’s jeep along Odaro Street close to his residence around 11 pm on Friday. Aziegbemi, who was returning from a night meeting at the government house, was followed and subsequently abducted.
It’s worth noting that Aziegbemi did not have police protection at the time of the incident. The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the abduction, stating that it falls under the jurisdiction of the New Etete Police Division, also known as Godwin Abbe Police Station.
“The Commissioner of Police has instructed tactical teams to go after the criminals, and we are hopeful that with everyone’s efforts, we will rescue him unharmed,” SP Chidi Nwabuzor stated.
The driver of Aziegbemi’s vehicle shared details of the kidnapping, explaining, “As we left the government house around 11 pm, I noticed a car following us, so I decided to take a different route. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize they were kidnappers.”
“Shortly after, the same cars blocked our path at a speed breaker, and armed gunmen emerged, pointing their guns at us. They ordered our chairman to enter their vehicle, and they drove off with him,” the driver recounted.
The abduction of Hon. Tony Aziegbemi has sparked concerns and efforts from law enforcement to secure his safe return.
