Oklahoma College Students Suffer Serious Illness During Cancun Resort Trip

A vacation in Mexico turned into a serious health crisis for several college students from Oklahoma. While on a couples’ trip to Cancun, two young women, Zara and Kaylie, both in their early twenties, suddenly fell ill. Zara had to be hospitalized after she experienced severe symptoms. The incident occurred while they were at the resort bar. According to reports, both women had just ordered water when they abruptly slumped over. Zara began having jerking movements, prompting immediate medical attention. Her condition was initially thought to be a seizure.Concerns about possible poisoning or drugging have been raised by their families. Zara was rushed to a hospital in Cancun, but after several days without significant improvement, the U.S. Embassy recommended that she be transported back to the United States for further treatment. Zara was flown to Dallas for more comprehensive medical care.Despite extensive testing, including a toxicology report from Mexico that has not yet been made available, doctors have struggled to diagnose the exact cause of Zara’s condition. The family has been faced with substantial medical expenses, totaling over $50,000, and Zara remains hospitalized. While Kaylie is recovering physically, the emotional toll on both women has been significant. To assist with the mounting expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up, raising more than $20,000 so far. The families continue to seek answers and support during this challenging time.
