Major Shakeup in Police As IGP Orders Massive Overhaul of Kebbi State CID, Officers Reassignment

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has dissolved the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kebbi state command and ordered that all officers be reassigned to other commands.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, November 28.
According to Adejobi, the mass reassignment is part of the IGP’s broader vision to “sanitise and restructure” the CID, ensuring that only highly specialised officers are retained in investigative roles.
As reported by The Sun on Friday, November 29, the affected officers will be redeployed to other commands, formations, and training schools across the country.
The initiative seeks to strengthen investigative efficiency and promote standardised practices in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, and the Police Act, 2020.
This development follows a recent workshop for Heads of Investigative Units held in Abuja, where the IGP emphasised the need for specialisation and continuous training in policing.
The IGP also reaffirmed his commitment to improving the quality of investigations, enhancing public trust, and ensuring the justice system operates effectively.
“The IGP has also expounded on the need to carry out consistent training of officers involved in investigations, as a follow-up to the workshop held with Heads of all Police Investigative Units in Abuja on the 11th of November, 2024.
“This initiative aligns with the IGP’s commitment to specialising and standardising all investigative units within the force, ensuring commitment to the rule of law. By implementing these changes, the force intends to improve the quality of investigations, enhance public trust, and ensure that justice is served efficiently and effectively. The reorganisation of other investigative units within the force will be carried out following the receipt of reports from the technical committees on the reforms.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency and accountability, dedicated to its mission of safeguarding the lives and properties of all citizens. This restructuring will significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance the security of our communities,” he said.

Court orders payment of 4 years salary arrears to police constabularies
In another development, TheTalk.NG reported that IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the Nigeria Police Service Commission were directed to pay police constabularies salary arrears owed them since 2021.
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Abuja division, issued the order on Wednesday, November 20.
The court ordered that each of the constabularies be paid N54,566 per month from January 2021 to May 2024.
