FULL LIST: Top Northern Powers Recently Accused of Sponsoring Bandits

Nigeria’s insecurity challenges have spanned decades, particularly in the country’s northern region. While the northeast is still in the grip of the Boko Haram terrorist group, the northwest is facing the menace of banditry and kidnapping.

As the security agencies continue to confront the national challenge, some northern political figures have been accused of being behind the insecurity in the northern region. The most recent accusation included a governor, senator and minister.

Below is the list of the recently accused northern figures:

Governor Dauda Lawa of Zamfara

The Zamfara Youth Vanguard for Peace (ZYVP) recently called on President Bola Tinubu to swiftly establish a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate some serious allegations against Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.

Specifically, they’re accusing Lawal, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, of supporting terrorist activities in the state by paying bandits, which is a pretty shocking claim.

ZYVP also claimed that Lawal has ties to convicted terrorist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, his brother-in-law. The group says Lawal’s recent visit to the US, where he met with Abdulmutallab at the Administrative Maximum Facility in Colorado, has raised concerns about his intentions. The group believes Lawal is plotting to internationalize the war against the Nigerian state.

The ZYVP letter also mentioned law enforcement agencies’ apprehension of Lawal’s associate, Bashir Hadejia. Hadejia confessed to plotting to destabilize Nigeria and implementing this agenda through protests. The group urged the President to investigate Lawal’s role in supporting terrorism and ensure Nigerians’ safety.

Shehu Umar Buba, Bauchi senator

The senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Umar Buba, recently denied the allegation that he was supporting banditry, saying he would not be intimidated by anyone or persons engaging in unsubstantiated claims.

The APC senator stated this while reacting to Bauchi state governor Bala Mohammed’s allegation, describing it as fabricated and malicious.

The federal lawmaker described Governor Bala Mohammed’s petition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “both laughable and regrettable.”

This was contained in a press statement issued by Buba’s Legislative Assistant, Hassan Gajin Duguri, on Thursday, October 3, and made available to TheTalk.NG.
