Finidi Acknowledges Challenges Ahead in 2026 World Cup Qualifiers
We’re just a few weeks away from the Nigeria/South Africa 2006 World Cup qualifier in Uyo, and Nigerians are feeling uneasy about the slow progress.
Recently appointed Nigeria coach, Finidi George, is gearing up for his debut match against Bafana Bafana at home, followed by a clash with Benin. George acknowledges the pressure but emphasizes taking it one game at a time.
“We understand the expectations from Nigerians, but we’re focused on the South African game first,” George stated. “Life’s tough, and football isn’t any different. We’ll do our job and focus on winning.”
The upcoming match against Bafana Bafana will be George’s first big test as head coach, following a 2-0 loss to Mali in March. Despite the setback, he remains determined to motivate his team for the crucial World Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles assistant coach Benjamin James expresses confidence in the new coaching staff’s ability to build a formidable national team. With Finidi George and Daniel Amokachi, James believes they can create a winning strategy.
“Our goal is to build a strong team,” James affirmed. “We’ll collaborate and utilize the talent we have to achieve success.”
