Upon arrival at Maiduguri International Airport, President Tinubu was received by Governor Babagana Zulum and other state officials.

Recall that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reports that the flood was triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam, caused by heavy rainfall, resulting in the worst flooding in the town in three decades.

NEMA also reported that over 23,000 households have been affected by the rapid rise in water levels following the weekend rupture of the Alau dam on the Ngadda River, 20km south of Maiduguri.

Reports indicate that the water had receded by Wednesday, after 70% of Maiduguri was submerged by the fast-moving waters, which ravaged the major cities in the state capital, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, government buildings, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

The flood also caused significant damage to houses, schools, commercial centers, and places of worship, and resulted in the loss of 80% of the animals at the Sanda Kyarimi Park Zoo. President Tinubu had earlier expressed deep concern over the flooding and directed relevant government agencies to expedite rescue efforts and evacuate residents from communities overtaken by floods.
