Breaking News: Rivers State Assembly to Screen 23 Caretaker Committee Chairmen and Members Today
Rivers State Assembly to Screen Caretaker Committee Members
Today, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, is set to screen nominees for Caretaker Committee Chairmen and members across the state’s 23 local government areas. This comes after the tenure of elected chairmen and councillors expired recently.
Governor Sir Sminialayi Fubara had previously directed Heads of Local Government Administration to assume leadership roles temporarily amidst the transition. However, the outgoing chairmen contested this directive, leading to tensions within the local governance framework.
A memo issued by the Clerk of the House, G.M. Gills-West, invited 23 nominees for screening as CTC chairmen and an additional seven nominees from each LGA for committee member positions. The screening process is scheduled for today at the Rivers State House of Assembly in Port Harcourt, emphasizing compliance with local government laws and procedural requirements.
This development underscores ongoing efforts to ensure continuity and effective governance at the grassroots level in Rivers State during this transitional period.
