Atiku: Abductions of Students, Teachers, IDPs Show Governance Failure
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, has spoken out about the recent abductions of internally displaced persons (IDPs), teachers, and schoolchildren in Borno and Kaduna States.
In a statement posted on his social media handle on Friday, Atiku expressed deep concern over the alarming situation. He referenced the abduction of 287 students from the Government Secondary School in Kuriga, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State, as well as the abduction of over 200 IDPs by bandits from their camp in Ngala LGA of Borno State.
The former vice president highlighted the worsening insecurity in the country and criticized the All Progressives Congress-led government for failing to ensure the security of citizens’ lives.
Atiku stated, “The media has been filled with distressing news of banditry, kidnapping, and violence that have made our country one of the most terrorized places on earth.
“In just one week, we have witnessed numerous mass abductions of innocent citizens in both the Northwest and Northeast regions of our country.
“The situation seems endless and the problem appears insurmountable. The current government, led by the APC, has failed significantly in providing the fundamental needs expected of an effective government.
“This failure is evident in the growing insecurity across the nation. Instead of addressing these pressing issues, the government seems to be avoiding them.
“While ordinary citizens suffer, the government continues to talk about reforms without taking concrete actions.
“As our young men are taken away, killed, or forced to join the ranks of terrorists, and our women and girls face various forms of violence, the authorities remain inactive.
“This goes against the constitutional duty that the security and well-being of citizens are the primary responsibility of the government.”
Atiku called upon security agencies to step up and protect innocent citizens from the terrors of banditry and terrorism, urging for immediate and effective action to address the escalating insecurity in the country.
