Rivers Emergency Rule: Soyinka Finally Reacts as Tinubu Suspends Fubara in Trending Video

Abeokuta, Ogun state – Nobel Prize winner, Wole Soyinka, has faulted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers state.

TheTalk.NG recalls that President Tinubu also suspended Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and the Rivers state House of Assembly.

Soyinka described President Tinubu’s decision as “over-excessive” and could have been managed in a better way.

The 90-year-old stateman stated this during an interview on Channels Television.

He called on Fubara and all the affected parties to challenge their suspension all the way up to the Supreme Court to ascertain if Tinubu’s decision was legal or not.

He said he was surprised at the ease at which the national assembly adopted and approved the suspension and state of emergency in Rivers state.

Soyinka accused President Tinubu of not economising on his emergency powers.

TheTalk.NG earlier reported that SERAP sued President Tinubu over what it described as the unlawful suspension of Fubara and others.

This was contained in a statement on Sunday, March 23, by SERAP’s deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare.

Recall that President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich state and suspended the governor and other elected officials for an initial period of six months.

TheTalk.NG also reported that the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) asked President Tinubu to instantly review the emergency rule in Rivers state.

The northern elders explained that the president’s action of suspending elected members of the state government was off the mark.

Meanwhile, TheTalk.NG reported that the NGF finally explained why it did not comment on the declaration of a state of emergency and the suspension of Governor Fubara of Rivers State.

Abdulateef Shittu, the director general of the NGF, noted that the issue is partisan and the governors belonged to different political parties.

President Tinubu announced the state of emergency following growing security tension over the political crisis in Rivers State.

Fubara’s aide gives fresh update on suspended governor

In a similar story, TheTalk.NG reported that the Chief Press Secretary to the suspended Rivers governor reacted to social media reports about the embattled governor.

Nelson Chukwudi told the people of Rivers State and Nigerians in general to disregard social media reports about Fubara.

Chukwudi disclosed that the suspended governor of Rivers State was safe and doing well contrary to social media reports.
