Rivers Urged to Use Constitutional Measures Against Instigators, Fubara Advised

In recent developments in Rivers State, former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Leyii Kwanee, has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to use constitutional measures against anyone inciting political unrest. He emphasized the need for state leaders and elders to denounce such actions aimed at disrupting the democratic process. The issue arose following controversy over the tenure extension of local government chairmen, which Kwanee attributed to actions by ex-Speaker Rt. Hon Martins Amaewhule and 26 others. He criticized their enactment of Law No 2 of 2024, arguing it contradicted both federal and state laws. Kwanee called for adherence to constitutional principles and praised Governor Fubara for maintaining peace amid the turmoil. He urged unity among leaders to quell the crisis and warned that constitutional provisions should be enforced against troublemakers who refuse to cooperate for the state’s peace and progress.
