Boy, 11, Stabbed to Death While Shielding Pregnant Mother from Attacker, Officials Report
An 11-year-old boy passed away while trying to protect his mother from a dangerous situation. The incident happened when a man named Crosetti Brand, 37, broke into their home, even though the boy’s mother had a protective order against him. This man had been released from prison the day before.
The Chicago Police Department Superintendent, Larry Snelling, expressed deep sadness about what occurred, stating, “This is something that should have never happened.” The boy’s mother, who is 33 years old, was severely hurt during the attack, but she managed to speak with detectives while in the hospital. Thankfully, the younger brother, who is 5 years old, was not physically harmed, according to the CPD.
Crosetti Brand now faces serious charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and home invasion with a dangerous weapon. He is currently in custody, as the state filed a motion to keep him detained before his court appearance.
Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx also commented on the tragic event, saying, “An innocent child’s life was taken as he tried to protect his mother. And a mother was attacked in what should have been the safest place for her, her home.”
During a press conference, officials revealed that the 11-year-old boy was leaving for school when Brand forced his way into their home. Brand had a history of violent behavior and had previously threatened the woman. He had also been in a relationship with her over 15 years ago, and she had an order of protection against him. Despite this, Brand violated these orders multiple times.
The woman, who was pregnant, suffered multiple stab wounds during the attack. Detectives found video evidence of Brand fleeing the scene and the knife used in the incident. This heartbreaking story highlights the tragic consequences of domestic violence and the importance of protecting victims from such heinous acts.
