Former NASS Member Jailed for 16 Months in Oyo for Forgery and Threats to Murder

A former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Folaranmi Oyebamiji, hailing from Ogbomoso South, has been found guilty by the Oyo State Chief Magistrate Court for committing forgery and issuing threats to murder. The judgment, delivered by Chief Magistrate Muideen Salami, sentenced Dr. Oyebamiji to one year and four months behind bars. Additionally, he was given a fine of N500,000 as an alternative to imprisonment.

During the 90-minute court session, Dr. Oyebamiji received varying sentences for his offenses. He was handed six months for conspiracy, three months for false publication/defamation, six months for forgery, and one month for threatening to murder. These sentences were to be served concurrently.

The case, marked MOG/190c/2021, stemmed from charges brought by the Oyo State Police Command against the former lawmaker. Despite Dr. Oyebamiji’s defense that he was hospitalized during the alleged incidents, the court ruled against him, considering his alibi an afterthought.

Although the defendant’s counsel pleaded for leniency, highlighting his family responsibilities and lack of prior convictions, the court ultimately sentenced him to sixteen months in prison, with the option of paying the N500,000 fine.
